Sounds
“Sounding Kawthoolei” is a collaborative experiment where I invited my students to collect the “Kawthoolei sounds” (Karen sounds) in their understanding with mobile phones, and handwrite their names, the places and the times when recording. In total, there are thirty-five pieces and I edited them into a single 17'31" audiovisual montage. You can hear the sounds from nature, such as rivers and forests, as well as the rhythm of Karen life, such as cooking, cleaning, and chanting hymns. You are welcome to click anywhere along the timeline to explore these sound fragments. To listen to my own recording, please skip to 16'52".
